A 65-year-old Katoomba woman was punched to the ground when she refused to hand over her belongings to two men who approached her on Monday June 19 at about 7pm on Waratah Avenue.
The woman was punched by one of the men. The knock to the ground left her with a bleeding nose. She was treated for face and shoulder injuries at hospital. The men ran away and she held on to her belongings, police said.
The male who punched the victim is described as being Caucasian, about 19-20 years old, about 180cm tall, slim build with acne and wearing a black hooded jacket. The second male is described as being Caucasian, about 19-20 years old, medium build, also wearing a black hooded jacket. Police are appealing for anyone with information about this incident to contact Katoomba Police on 4782 8199
And about 11:30am on the same day [Monday June 19], a 16-year old female from Orange was performing log-splitting work at the 'Just Ironbark' work yard on Livingstone Street in Lawson. While operating hydraulic log-splitting machinery, the girl’s hand became caught between a log and the splitter, completely severing her middle finger on her left hand, as well as causing significant injuries to her other fingers, police said. First aid was rendered immediately and the female was transported to Westmead Hospital for treatment. WorkCover has been advised and will be conducting inquiries.
