Pinerolo, the Children’s Book Cottage at Blackheath, and WestWords, western Sydney's young people’s literature development organisation have partnered to offer illustrators a week’s residency at Pinerolo.
This is an opportunity for illustrators to spend a week in inspiring surroundings and to be mentored daily by Margaret Hamilton who has more than 30 years experience as a professional publisher of award-winning picture books.
This program continues the resolve of Pinerolo to promote Australian picture books and to educate adults and children about them. It aims to extend illustrators’ knowledge of picture book creation and design, the process of publishing and the publishing industry.
Residents will have access to the extensive collection of original picture book artwork, Australian picture books and the collection of working drawings, roughs and pre-publication materials.
Margaret Hamilton said: “It’s inspiring to watch illustrators developing their work and especially satisfying to guide them on the path to publication of a picture book. Three years of illustrators in residence at Pinerolo have already resulted in several published illustrators.”
Two places are available during 2017: September 11-15 and October 23-27. Applications are invited from emerging or early-career illustrators who have begun or will commence work on artwork for a children’s picture book during the residency. Applications close on July 31.
