Katoomba-based Platform Gallery is sponsoring two one-month artist residencies for Blue Mountains artists at the new studio and exhibition space at Katoomba Falls Kiosk.
“The Kiosk is a fantastic artist-run initiative started by Toolo, the Blue Mountains Tool Library, and Modern Art Projects, to support the local creative community,’ said Kelly Heylen, curator of Platform Gallery.
“I am so pleased to team up with these organisations to be able to sponsor residencies for artists who need space to be able to turn their creative vision into reality, but who might not be able to afford their own studio.
“Affordable studio space can be out of reach for many, especially emerging artists who are at the beginning of their careers. Having a dedicated space to create is so important for the creative process.

“Being able to have that space in amongst peers, as happens at The Kiosk, is an added bonus, because that’s when sparks can really fly.”
The application process is a simple 150-word statement plus links to an online portfolio. Applications will be assessed by Kelly and Jenny-Lee Heylen of Platform Gallery, plus Justin Morrissey of Toolo and The Kiosk.
“I will also work intensively with the artists who are awarded the residencies to explore ideas they might have for a solo show at Platform in 2018,” said Ms Heylen.
“I’m hoping the residencies will uncover some exciting emerging artists that I haven’t worked with before, who we can support in their career development.”
Applications close on August 21. Details at http://www.platformgallery.co/news.
