The Blue Mountains City Band is celebrating its 80th birthday with a gala concert on Saturday, August 19.
The concert is a joint enterprise with the Blue Mountains City RSL Band, NSW Fire Brigade Band, Katoomba PS Band and former members of Blue Mountains City RSL Band.
The concert will comprise the City Band's music for the NSW State Championships including a spectacular arrangement of music from the movie Avatar, a beautiful hymn composed by famous composer John Williams, and Music for a Festival, an exciting and complex classic written by famous British composer Philip Sparke.
The NSW Fire and Rescue Band will then take over with their spectacular and energetic show which includes their marching girls.
The evening will end with an arrangement called 80 written by City Band musical director Volker Schoeler and a slide show.
The concert is on Saturday, August 19 at 7pm in the Pat Heffernan Hall, Katoomba Public School. Entry: gold coin donation to brass academy.
