Blue Mountains mayor Mark Greenhill has taken another swipe at the planned second Sydney airport at Badgerys Creek following the establishment last week of the Western Sydney Airport Corporation.
“The Australian Government persists with the farce of establishing forums and companies to make it appear that there is some movement on this preposterous proposal,” said the mayor. “Running an airport with no flight paths is akin to running a company without a product.
“I can only hope that the new Western Sydney Airport Co knows more than the community, which is left with uncertainty at every turn - flight paths, aircraft noise, traffic, transport, the environment, public health and economic impacts.
“It is incomprehensible that the proposal for Sydney’s second airport doesn’t even chart out the intended flight paths. This fact is further compounded by the Australian Government’s sales pitch of questionable economic growth and jobs to western Sydney.
“In my view, the current EIS is a con job and ignores the majority view of the community. I reaffirm the call of the Blue Mountains and western Sydney communities for a new EIS that is strong on facts instead of rhetoric and one that is worthy of the most significant proposal affecting the liveability of western Sydney for the next century.”
