Do you have a plan in case of a bushfire emergency? To help you prepare, a range of events and activities are being held throughout the Blue Mountains in spring.
These events, held as part of Get Ready! Blue Mountains (supported by the Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal), give you the opportunity to speak to emergency services about developing an emergency plan, what actions can be undertaken to prepare, and where to get assistance.
Being prepared for an emergency can include simple steps, such as talking with your family about what you will do in different emergency situations, getting the contact details of neighbours, packing an emergency kit, and maintaining your home and garden. Preparing now, while the pressure is off, can make all the difference in an emergency situation.
Kris Newton, Convenor of the Resilience & Preparedness Group which is coordinates the Get Ready! Blue Mountains events, encouraged all residents to get out into the spring weather and join in a local activity.
“Get Ready! Blue Mountains will have something for everyone. Have some fun, meet your neighbours, gather some resources, and be better prepared for the new fire season ahead.”
There will be family fun days, seniors’ lunches, playgroups and Meet Your Street events, all focussed on supporting residents to Get Ready! To see the full list of events, see the calendar in this feature or go to www.mcrn.org.au.
