The Blackheath community hall will be a riot of colour as rows of daffodils, tulips, iris, camellias, prunus, azaleas and magnolias compete for coveted prizes.

There is a separate section for natives, where wattle and waratah sit side-by-side with bottlebrush and tea tree.

Always popular are the floral arrangements, this year offering a range of subjects, including Pretty in Pink, Simplicity in White and Australian Treasures.

Elsewhere in the Phillips Hall is the cookery section. Drool over cakes, biscuits, scones and an excellent collection of jams, marmalades and relishes.

Upstairs in the smaller Bates Hall, the crafters come to life, with walls adorned with magnificent quilts, displays of spinning, weaving, felting, knitting, embroidery and needlework.

There are also separate classes for woodwork and ceramics.

The photography exhibition combines the best of both worlds, with photographs of single stems of flowers, a larger arrangement, a garden view or mountain vista.

There are also junior flower, craft and cooking sections and a scarecrow competition sponsored by Bendigo Bank.

Entries will be taken on Friday, September 22 from 3-8pm and Saturday 7-8.30am. (There are photos and diagrams of the different camellia and daffodil classes in the program to help determine the category to enter.) After judging, the show is open to the public from noon-5pm Saturday and 9am-3.30pm Sunday. Entries are then auctioned off (unless otherwise specified) and all are welcome to help pack up! Inquiries call 4782 2292.

Also this weekend is the Mt Wilson Spring Blossom Festival, Saturday and Sunday 10am-4pm. There are eight open gardens: Bisley, Breenhold, Carmarthen (Saturday only), Hawthorn Hill (Sunday only), Merry Garth, Nooroo, Sefton Cottage and Withycombe.
