After 10 years of trading in Blackheath, Gleebooks is expanding.
Co-owner David Gaunt said that they were thrilled to be “spreading our wings” by opening a second shop in Colliers Arcade, next to the main shop. The new shop will carry a much larger range of second-hand books.
Gleebooks first opened in Glebe in 1975, as a specialist second-hand bookshop. After more than 40 years in the original location, that store is closing and the books are moving to the main store in Glebe, as well as relocating to Blackheath.
Blackheath second-hand shop manager, Stephen Reid, said that it would be great to see the original business carrying its tradition to Blackheath. He said that people had been very enthusiastic about the plan, and were looking forward to a fine future.
The new shop will open on the long weekend, Saturday, September 31, coinciding with the usual long weekend book sale in the arcade. To celebrate Gleebooks will be offering gift vouchers for the new shop to customers who spend $50 or more, plus a lucky dip for kids.
