The Katoomba Falls kiosk is seeking a new operator, with expressions of interest called for by Blue Mountains council.
The kiosk is on Cliff Drive, Katoomba. It is a rare surviving example of a Federation era kiosk. It is currently being used as an art space but the arrangement was always going to be temporary.
Raine & Horne Katoomba, operating on behalf of council, is seeking expressions of interest from qualified business owners to take over the lease.
“Council is undertaking a significant renewal of the tourism precinct known as the Scenic Southern Escarpment, a natural area that stretches from Katoomba to Wentworth Falls,” said Carol Deiley, senior property manager with the company. “This project will include a refurbishment of the heritage-listed Katoomba Falls kiosk.”
“A development application is being prepared to upgrade and extend the existing building to include a contemporary 60-seat restaurant, with a capacity for 110 seats subject to design confirmation and a 25-seat kiosk that will operate as a café.”
Council is hoping to hear from suitably experienced operators with a history in the hospitality industry to lease, fit-out and run the kiosk.
A council spokeswoman said: “The vision for this redeveloped and renovated establishment is that it will provide a quality restaurant experience for tourists and locals, with the kiosk to offer refreshments and picnic hampers.
“The kiosk sits adjacent to Katoomba Falls Tourist Park and the popular Katoomba Falls circuit walks.”
Council expects a rental return commensurate with rents for similar operations, according to Ms Deiley.
“An initial 10-year term will be offered with 2X5 year options,” Ms Deiley said.
“Katoomba Falls Kiosk is the perfect opportunity for Sydney green changers to take ownership of a high-visibility business with consistent cash flow.”
EOI submissions will be accepted until 5pm on Monday, October 16, and must be lodged directly with council by emailing council@bmcc.nsw.nsw.gov.au.
