For a relatively new club, the members of Blue Mountains Tumbling & Trampoline Club can certainly punch – or should that be turn, bounce and soar – above their weight.
At the recent state championships, the 24-strong team, mostly first-time competitors, came away with a swag of medals and ribbons.
Medallists were Kaleigh Martin (silver in tumbling), Esther Nelson (silver in tumbling), Aaron Shields (silver in trampoline), and bronzes to Rose Blackwell (tumbling), Mia Bryant and Emma Jones Cook (both in single mini-tramp).
Another haul came with ribbons awarded to finalists: Aaron Shield (4th in tumbling and 5th in double mini-tramp), Lauren Martin (5th in trampoline), Kaleigh Martin (6th in trampoline and 7th out of a massive 60 competitors in double mini-tramp) and Sabela Vendramini (6th in single mini-tramp).
Head coach, Jenny de Roo, and her fellow coaches Jo Griffith, Bec Twomey and Chloe Hitchell were thrilled with the results.
“The way that these kids worked at this competition was just phenomenal,” said Ms de Roo.
“When I first came to this club five years ago it was recreational. They asked me to take the kids through to competition.
“We did and we did incredibly well. They have worked 110 per cent these children.”
