More than 1000 protesters came together at Bondi Beach on Saturday morning to protest at the construction of the Adani coal mine in Central Queensland.
The protest was held as part of the Stop Adani group's "big day of action" and was one of more than 45 protests held around the country.
A number of local Stop Adani groups from across Australia gathered to protest and spelled out "#STOP ADANI" with their bodies.
The protesters were aiming to send a message to the Queensland and federal governments that they didn't want to construction of the mine to proceed.
The protesters wore red and black, the colours of the Stop Adani movement and held up signs accusing the federal government of handing money to Adani founder Gautam Adani.
Blair Palese, CEO of 350.org, a group that opposes new coal, oil and gas projects said that neither government was listening to the public.
"While the Queensland and federal governments remain staunch supporters of this dirty mine, new polling shows the Australian community is angry that $1 billion of public money could be handed to Adani for a mine that will wreck the climate and the [Great Barrier] Reef," he said.
"Voters are clear. They believe the Queensland government should stick to its promise and block the $1 billion loan to billionaire Adani for his private rail line."
Organisers estimate that 1500 people attended the Bondi Beach protest alone with a further 900 people attending a protest in Newtown.
Two members of the Bondi Beach protest wore large masks depicting Malcolm Turnbull and Gautam Adani walking arm-in-arm with Adani holding a money bag with "Your taxes $1B" written on the outside.
The protesters called upon the Queensland and federal governments to stop construction on the coal mine, which will be the largest in Australia upon completion.
A new ReachTEL poll released on Saturday by the Stop Adani movement shows that 56 per cent of Australians oppose the Adani coal project.
