Artists can often struggle to make a living, but for the next 30 days one Blue Mountains artist isn’t thinking about money.
In a generous act, Blaxland landscape painter Corinne Loxton is giving away 30 stunning works of art as she “follows her heart” in a bid to “genuinely democratise art”.
“The idea came after a long haul of painting for exhibitions (sales), and I wanted to explore painting unfettered to sales and to encourage other’s creativity and democratise access to art,” the professional visual artist said.
“My gallery wasn’t overly happy about it, but I need to follow my own heart,” she added.
Calling the social media campaign, Create to Thrive – 30 Days of Creating with Corinne, she is making a small artwork every day for 30 days then giving it away over the internet. Loxton hopes it will “foster creativity and connection”, encouraging others to create something of their own.
“Many people would love to buy art, but don’t for a variety of reasons. Giving my work away creates a beautiful flow of goodwill and connection. I receive abundantly as I give. People share their stories with me as they respond to my paintings and I inspire them to create their own unique artworks.
“It may be a drawing, a couple of lines of poetry, a recipe, or an arrangement of objects. You may prefer to participate by watching and commenting and by asking for one of the landscape watercolours, inspired by my everyday experiences of the Blue Mountains,” she added.
Loxton has two painting workshops coming up. November 18 is about Capturing Light and Shade in the Garden and the Bush and a workshop on November 19 is for Intensive Studio Practice.
Loxton exhibits and sells her oil paintings with galleries, including Rex-Livingston Art + Objects in Katoomba. Create to Thrive started on October 2 and finishes on Nov 1.
