Blue Mountains mayor Mark Greenhill has encouraged residents to have their say on plans to upgrade the Ross Street and Great Western Highway intersection at Glenbrook.
Roads and Maritime Service is proceeding with the upgrade of the intersection, including closing vehicle access to Glenbrook village from the current intersection at Wascoe Street and Mann/Hare Street at the highway.
Blue Mountains City Council has opposed this option - option 5 in the RMS Review of Environmental Factors - and is encouraging residents to comment on the RMS plan.
“This was not what the community or council wanted,” said Blue Mountains mayor Mark Greenhill
“While the Council supports the upgrade and introduction of traffic lights at the intersection of Ross Street and the highway, it does not support the option proposed by the RMS to fully close access to Glenbrook village centre from the current intersection at Wascoe Street and Mann/Hare Street.
“Council is of the view that the option proposed by the RMS significantly reduces the safety, accessibility and financial viability for Glenbrook residents, business and visitors.”
“The RMS’ preferred option aims to reduce project costs rather than achieving the preferred outcome for the Glenbrook village and residents.
“This option does not reflect the design outcome, as agreed by the council. The RMS proposed will see traffic snarls in Glenbrook town centre.”
The mayor said the community consultation process, co-ordinated by council on behalf of the RMS, clearly identified a strong community preference for including the left in and left out option for Hare Street.
RMS is inviting feedback on the design and Review of Environmental Factors (REF) for the project until Sunday, November 12.
You can view a hard copy of the REF at the Blaxland Library and Glenbrook Visitor Information Centre. Alternatively, the REF and other project documents can be downloaded from the Roads and Maritime website www.rms.nsw.gov.au/projects/sydney-west/glenbrook-intersection-upgrade/.
