Alex Jeans is on a roll.
The Blaxland actor has quit his part-time job at Bunnings to spend the next seven months working as an actor.
“It’s what every actor dreams of,” the 24-year-old told the Gazette.
“When you quit your part-time job that’s something to celebrate.”
Jeans kicked off his career in Bare the Musical at Depot Theatre in Marrickville in November 2016. It was so popular there was a second season.
The pop musical followed students at a Catholic boarding school as they grappled with issues of sexuality, identity, and the future.
Then he was picked up in the Australian premiere of the Green Day American Idiot musical in Brisbane playing a lead role.
The season was so popular, it will tour the country for six months next year.
Jeans was over the moon.
“I was not expecting I would be doing this a year ago,” he said.
For now the Blaxland High graduate will be letting his hair down as US singer Bruce Springsteen in the musical High Fidelity, based on the movie starring John Cusack.
He plays the rocker in a dream sequence, complete with the blue wash jeans, cowboy boots and bandana and there’ll be a Springsteen-ish song.
When he’s not rocking out, he’ll be skulking in the corner of the record store as “mowhawk guy.”
High Fidelity tells the story of life and vinyl while skilfully evoking the sounds and styles of the greatest artists a record store can offer: artists like Bruce Springsteen, Aretha Franklin, U2, The Beatles, Heart, Pat Benatar, Guns ’n’ Roses, Ben Folds, The Beastie Boys, Dr. Dre and Marvin Gaye.
The musical stars of the recent Kinky Boots musical, Toby Francis and Teagan Wouters have key roles.
Francis is playing Rob Gordon, the show’s protagonist. Joining him as Laura, the now ex-girlfriend, is Teagan Wouters who was this year nominated for a Helpmann Award for her performance in Kinky Boots.
High Fidelity is showing at Hayes Theatre, Potts Point from November 18 to December 17.
