Thanks to students at Blue Mountains Grammar Preparatory School, families who have struggled all year will have food on the table and toys under the tree this Christmas.
As part of Anglicare’s Toys ‘n’ Tucker campaign, students at the school will collect Christmas food and new toys throughout November and December to be packed into special Christmas hampers for families across Sydney and the Illawarra.
For Blue Mountains Grammar Preparatory School spokesperson, Elissa Borros, Toys ‘n’ Tucker is a way to share the joy of Christmas.
“Blue Mountains Grammar Preparatory School has been involved in Toys n Tucker for the past 13 years. Every November, our school families are invited to donate suitable toys and food items to families in need in our community. Staff, students and families give generously to this cause with the hope of sharing the joy of Christmas.”
With high rents and expensive electricity bills, Christmas can be a time of stress, worry and quite often hunger for families who turn to Anglicare for help.
“Far from a time of joy, some parents in our communities are contemplating going hungry so their children can have something special on the day,” said Grant Millard, Anglicare CEO.
“Participating in Toys ‘n’ Tucker is one practical way people can encourage someone who may be struggling this Christmas as well as provide something special for them on the day.”
In 2016, about 95 tons of food and toys were donated which meant Anglicare could pack and deliver more than 6000 hampers to people in need.
“We are aiming to provide more households with some Christmas cheer this summer through the generous donations of people in our community. Anglicare cannot do the work it does without their support,” Mr Millard said.
