A Winmalee student has been awarded $10,000 from the Laureate Australia Alumni Grants after impressing judges with a local sustainable business idea for “The Toybox Company”.
Jodie Hay is a graduate of APM College of Business and Communication at Torrens University, part of Laureate International Universities, and is developing a small family business to bring back the art of toy craftsmanship.
“The Laureate Australia Alumni Grants encourage graduates to take the Laureate passion to be ‘Here for Good’ and translate it into innovative, entrepreneurial ideas with social good at their heart,” said Torrens University Vice-Chancellor Justin Beilby.
“Jodie’s toybox subscription company will provide robust toys made with minimal ecological impact, produced from sustainable materials and made by locally owned companies wherever possible.
“It will be a chance for families to enjoy something of a toy library delivered to their door, safe in the knowledge that they are coming from a passion for sustainability and a commitment to building on the growing ‘sharing economy’.
“We were impressed with Jodie’s commitment to environmental sustainability as well as the sustainable business model she presented.
“This is a great initiative that we are proud to get behind and we look forward to seeing it grow from strength to strength,” Professor Beilby said.
