The ongoing saga over the power supply to Wentworth Falls railway station lifts will be sorted before Christmas.
A Transport for NSW said they had “been working closely with Endeavour Energy to complete the power supply upgrade at Wentworth Falls Station ...work is already underway and is expected to be completed in the coming weeks before Christmas, after which the generator will be removed”.
The Transport for NSW spokesperson thanked the community “for their patience” during this work.
“Customers will continue to enjoy the lifts with uninterrupted access while the power supply is switched over.”
The lifts opened at Wentworth Falls five months ago with a large “temporary” diesel generator supplying the power from the corner of the train station carpark.
Residents including Andrew and Sandra Jakeman, said they have been “dumbfounded at the planning procedure that allowed this planning debacle to occur” and expressed concerns about the fumes, the noise, and also the “over the top” lighting which had kept them awake at night.
MP for the Blue Mountains, Trish Doyle called the lift delays “bungling incompetence”. She has written twice to Transport Minister Andrew Constance about her concerns.
Member of the Legislative Council Shayne Mallard officially opened the lifts on June 19 and said complex unique geology had forced a change in designs for the power upgrade.
