Streets workers vote to end boycott
A public boycott of Streets ice-cream has ended after after the company's employees forged an agreement for better working conditions with its multinational owners.
The workers at the factory at Minto, in Sydney's south-west, voted to ratify an in-principle agreement at a meeting on Wednesday, which ended the boycott of the brand's popular ice-creams.
"This is an enormous victory for fairness. We are pleased that Australians can get back to enjoying these iconic Australian-made ice-creams," Australian Manufacturing Workers Union (AMWU) NSW secretary Steve Murphy said in a statement. Read more

New metro rail line from Sydney CBD to Parramatta 'highest priority' for state
NSW Transport Minster Andrew Constance says building a new multi-billion-dollar metro train line from central Sydney to Parramatta is the "highest priority for the city", raising questions over when the new airport at Badgerys Creek will be linked by rail.
His remarks raise the likelihood that a so-called "north-south" rail line from Rouse Hill in Sydney's north to Campbelltown via Western Sydney Airport will not be built until some time after the metro line is opened late next decade. Read more via SMH
Coogee Beach tops list of ambulance call-outs for spinal injuries
In the early hours of the morning, Liam Jackson stood on the beach ready to start swimming training with the rest of his team.
The Coogee lifesavers were not yet on duty but, as a lifesaver and representative swimmer, 14-year-old Liam wasn't concerned.
As they ran and dived into the water, a small wave clipped Liam's feet and steered him towards the sand, crushing his head into his chest. Read more

Government pushes back over housing criticism
The state government is pushing back against criticism of its housing development zones across Sydney, saying that without them housing growth would not be matched by local infrastructure.
