A Blue Mountains small, family owned and operated business offering boutique accommodation is nipping at the heels of some of Sydney’s glamorous city hotels, to be crowned the most luxurious place to stay in the state.
Mountain Whispers ‘Mountain Whispers The MW Collection’ won silver at the NSW Tourism Awards last month in the category of luxury accommodation, no mean feat considering the four properties which form the collection are competing against some of the world’s most famous five star hotels in the city.
Owner and renovator, Lorraine Allanson from Sydney, said she was absolutely thrilled to win the award, especially since she was up against “incredibly fierce” competition.
Her four historic properties comprising Varenna, Leura Rose and Strawberry Patch located in Leura and The Gatsby in Katoomba, also won bronze last year in the five star luxury category.
“To win silver this year tells us we are certainly doing something right and I am proud to be able to compete against the large hotels,” Ms Allanson said. “Being able to offer something truly unique and create a relaxing and calming escape from the hustle of the city is what motivates me.
“I left the hectic corporate life as I knew it was having a negative impact on my health and now I love nothing more than to help others seeking an escape to really relax and rejuvenate.”
Ms Allanson was inspired to pursue her dream of welcoming people from all over the world to the charming Blue Mountains after she experienced her very own mountains romance when her husband, Roger, proposed on Valentine’s Day in Katoomba. Her passion took her on a journey of research into each property’s history and period details, with no expense spared in completing each of the restorations and renovations to provide guests with an utterly magical and unforgettable experience.
“Each of the properties have been restored to their original glory, embodying the Blue Mountains rich cultural heritage and history,” said Ms Allanson.
To celebrate, she is inviting people to enjoy her award winning accommodation and experience something uniquely different from a hotel stay with a special offer – purchase a gift certificate for yourself or that special someone and receive double the value.
