Contemporary artists have responded to Tracey Moffatt’s 1997 photographic series Up in the Sky. On Friday December 1 Aboriginal leader Warren Mundine opened the Summer Exhibition Suite at Lewers Bequest.
Tracey Moffatt’s work Up in the Sky is a series of 25 black and white photographs. Produced in 1997, the photographic series may be read as black and white film stills, set in an iconic outback Australian landscape. Moffat’s landscape is peopled, with an open-ended narrative that is provocative of questions of personal, cultural, racial and political histories, both remarkably Australian and global.
