An investigation has been launched following the death of a man at Leonay after his vehicle crashed into a tree.
The crash occurred after a vehicle allegedly failed to stop for a random breath test being conducted on the Great Western Highway at Lapstone shortly after 10pm on Saturday, December 9.
Police initiated a pursuit of the vehicle, however it was terminated shortly afterwards.
“The pursuit was terminated before the vehicle left the road and crashed into a tree on the M4 at Leonay,” a police statement said.
“The driver, a 35-year-old man, was taken to Nepean Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.”
A critical incident team will now investigate all circumstances surrounding the crash. The investigation will be subject to independent review and all information will be provided to the Coroner, police stated.
