The final piece of the Barangaroo dining precinct has been completed, with restaurateurs and hoteliers Solotel, run by Matt Moran and Bruce Solomon, opening the door to what they call ''fun dining''.
Known as the treehouse, Barangaroo House is located at the southern end of the sprawling $6 billion Barangaroo site. The tri-level food and drink emporium will feature Sydney's latest roof top bar, called Smoke.
Having signed the lease three years ago and spent a rumoured $13 million on the interior, Mr Moran and Mr Solomon served the first patrons on Friday, in time for Christmas parties.
Designed in collaboration by local firms Collins and Turner, H&E Architects & Etic, it will have 900 seats across three levels and features Noma's former head chef Corey Campbell serving up home made pita bread and kebabs as well as kangaroo, native fruit munthari and blueberriess.
Barangaroo House represents three shallow bowls, all of which have been designed to feature greenery.
It is the latest addition to the Solotel empire, which includes the Opera Bar, Clovelly Hotel, the flagship Aria restaurant and two Chiswick restaurants.
''We have fine dining at Aria and fun dining at Bea, named after the 'B' in Barangaroo, which sits in the middle level, above the House bar and the rooftop bar,'' Mr Moran said.
''It is about people being relaxed and enjoying the wonderful view and enjoying themselves.''
Gary Horwitz, the head of retail, invesmtent management and property at Lendlease, said it was an ''emotional'' day to see the final piece of the dining precint open.
''Four years ago we had this bold vision to put Barangaroo on the global food map,'' Mr Horwitz said.
''There are now 40 offers of dining in the area and with 20,000-plus workers and as many tourists, all tastes are catered for.''
Mr Horwitz said the treehouse was the ''jewel'' along the Barangaroo waterfront.
Like the rest of Barangaroo, which last week opened its own recylced water plant, the new restuarant and bars will be sustainable.
''This is the biggest investment in a leasehold for Solotel,'' Mr Solomon said.
''We have 32 venues and we like the diversity of having pubs, bars, restaurants and now Barangaroo house.''
But the process hasn't been easy with a range of licensing delay issues and the extended construction phase.
As Mr Moran said: ''we were the first to sign and the last to open''.
''Its been a long road, but now we are finally open,'' Mr Moran said.
''I will be here but its Corey's kitchen and we believe it will become a beacon along the waterfront.''
Lendlease developed Barangaroo and has created a place for niche bars, fine dining and now two rooftop bars.
