Police are appealing for public assistance to help locate a man who absconded after a supervised day release in the Blue Mountains.

Ian Brown, aged 36, was last seen at a medical facility at Katoomba at about 11.20pm on Thursday, December 14.

Mr Brown failed to return and a search of the area failed to locate him.

Officers from Blue Mountains Local Area Command were then notified.

Mr Brown is described as being of Caucasian appearance, with a medium build, about 165cm tall, with brown hair and brown eyes.

He was last seen wearing dark coloured jeans, a white t-shirt under a long sleeve shirt with black joggers, a bucket hat and sunglasses.

Members of the public are urged not to approach him, but to instead contact police via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
