Katoomba born and raised actor Madeleine Jones has taken out an acclaimed Sydney Theatre Award.
In Sydney on Monday night she won the award for best performance by a female actor in a supporting role in a musical, for her role as Rhonda in Muriel’s Wedding.
The musical, which has been playing in Sydney since November, was adapted by the film’s original writer-director PJ Hogan, into a dazzling stage show which brings the story into the present.
Jones is an accomplished actor, who recently played the lead role of Patty in the QTC tour of Simon Phillips’ Ladies in Black, as well as Juliet in Romeo and Juliet, and Ariel in The Tempest for Sport for Jove. She was nominated for a Helpmann Award for her performance in the Aussie production of the Broadway smash hit Once, in 2014-15.
The Sydney Theatre Awards are presented annually by a group of leading theatre critics to celebrate the strength, quality and diversity of theatre in Sydney.
