The Blue Mountains Women’s Health and Resource Centre (BMWHRC) is about to run a health and well-being course for women.
“We as a nation are eating more, moving less and acquiring lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, high cholesterol and heart disease at a much younger age than we have in the past,” said BMWHRC’s Lyn Pagan, who will be running the seven-week course.
“Women because of their multiple roles have less time nowadays to look after their own health and can often have a complex relationship with food. Many women do have the relevant knowledge particularly since there is so much information out there including through various TV programs,” she said.
“However for a number of reasons, it may be hard to make any changes. Sometimes it is so much easier just to reach for the chocolate! However we have found with this program, if women have the necessary information and more importantly, the support including from other women in the group, they are more likely to make achievable and sustainable changes to their lifestyle. It is sustainable changes that are often the key, since changing what you eat, increasing your physical activity levels or doing something about your stress levels, have only very limited success unless it is ongoing.
“We have all been there and done that. It just makes you feel worse when you revert back to old patterns”.
The course will be held at 124 Lurline Street, Katoomba beginning Thursday, February 15 from 10am-12noon and costs $25. Bookings are essential. Phone 4782 5133.
