The National Trust’s Norman Lindsay Gallery Jazz in the Garden is an eagerly awaited annual event that brings the iconic jazz band Galapagos Duck to the Mountains.
This year’s show is on Saturday, February 24. Gates open at 4pm.
Galapagos Duck began in the late 1960s while the members were engaged in a winter season at the Charlottes Pass ski resort.
After returning to Sydney, the band continued to work and became well known in the Australian jazz and music scene during the 1970s when it was the house band at the emerging jazz night club, The Basement. The band performed in the club continuously for 16 years during which the Basement became known as one of the greatest jazz clubs in Australia.
Since these humble beginnings, The Duck has become one of the best known jazz bands in Australia and very well known throughout the country.
Although the membership has changed, the direction of the band has always remained the same, to create a performance experience that - while jazz oriented - is able to be appreciated and enjoyed by everybody.
This celebration of Norman’s birthday is also a celebration of jazz music at its most diverse.
Gather the family and friends and bring them along to this iconic event. Gates open at 4pm. Bring food and drinks and a chair or blanket. The regular coffee vendor will be on site. Parking and gallery admission is included in the ticket price.
Bookings are essential, online at www.normanlindsay.com.au or phone 4751 1067. For the first time the Lindsay Café will be open from 4pm, bookings and info available at www.lindsayscafe.com.
If raining, the event will be moved to a local indoor venue.
