Winter Magic lives on.
The Winter Magic Festival Association held a very successful community forum last week, attracting 15 new members.
The group now plans to hold a special general meeting on Monday, March 26, at the same venue, the Pat Heffernan hall at Katoomba Public School from 7-9pm (entry via Merriwa Street).
The meeting will elect a new committee from the ranks of the festival association membership.
This year’s Winter Magic Festival was cancelled after concerns were raised about traffic management requirements, and the need for a risk management plan and an emergency evacuation plan.
In the end, it was felt that there was no time to overcome these hurdles and the scheduled 25th anniversary festival will now be held next year.
Council last week voted to investigate how it might help financially or with other support to reduce the spiralling costs of the festival, which was estimated to have contributed $2.4 million to the local economy last year.
Members of the public are invited to sit in on the March 25 meeting as observers and are welcome to join the association on the night, however will not be eligible to participate in the elections due to the required two-week waiting period.
