Real estate agent Mark Barton is the new president of the Blue Mountains Regional Business Chamber (BMRBC) after Peita Davies stepped down from the role to focus on a new business venture in Penrith.
Ms Davies, of realestate.com.au Home Loans, said she “loved the role and will miss it. However, at this time I have to put my business and my team first and really concentrate on getting my new office in Penrith functioning.”
She said Mr Barton, of Barton Real Estate in Springwood, will make a fantastic president.
“I know he will take what we have built with him as my vice president and continue the journey of ensuring that the chamber is relevant and supportive to the small business community.”
Mr Barton said he was “enthusiastic about the opportunities that lie ahead for the small business community and my job at the chamber is to capitalise on those opportunities”.
“I have been buoyed by a recent survey of the chamber membership which was positive about the role that the chamber has played on behalf of small business and provided new ideas for the chamber to consider.
“The survey also revealed that over 92 per cent of the members saw the Western Sydney Airport as a business opportunity and it is our role to bring these opportunities to the community and I will be working to make this a reality.”
Mr Barton thanked Peita Davies for her more than 10 years of service to the BMRBC and said she should take the survey results as a sign of having delivered on behalf of the small business community.
Chris Cannell of Music in the Mountains was elected as the new vice president. He said he will be “working to strengthen ties between the Blue Mountains Tourism and Accommodation Association and BMRBC as there are a number of joint activities that the organisations can progress on behalf of the small business community”.
Upcoming events of the BMRBC include:
- #Get Business Savvy on Social Media (April) and #Get Legal on Social Media (May) workshops at the Blue Mountains Hub in Springwood that can help you get your social media promotions sorted as well as deliver some mandatory continuous professional development points without the need to go off the mountain; and;
- The 10th Annual Business Expo at the Hub on May 2.
