Michael Yates sustained a brain injury 14 years ago and a piece of bone is missing from the side of his head, which leaves his brain more susceptible to injury.
He fell over at Katoomba Station last month and his head was stomped on by a teenager police are trying to identify.
At 6pm on February 24 the 51-year-old former Leura resident was at Katoomba Railway Station where he planned to catch a train back to Lithgow where he lives under the care of his daughter Ashleigh Sakkouri. He fell over and was approached by a group of people, including a teenager who stomped on his head, Ms Sakkouri said.
“My father was rendered unconscious as the attackers targeted him when he had fallen over on the platform,” Ms Sakkouri said.
“This attack was brutal and unprovoked and could have potentially been life-threatening. My father has been left with trauma and serious injuries.”
Ms Sakkouri said her father sustained cuts, bruising and swelling to his face and a bump on his head. She said he had pain in his ribs, and blurred vision and headaches for at least a week after the incident.
Blue Mountains Police Detective Chief Inspector Dietmar Almer said: “Our intelligence personnel are seeking to identify a person that may be able to assist us with our inquiries.”
The male who is alleged to have stomped on the head of the victim is a teenage boy aged between 15 to 18 years old wearing a light-coloured T-shirt and baseball cap, Insp Almer said.
