Schools around the country marked the National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence on March 16.
At Leura Public School the Students’ Representative Council ran an anti-bullying poster competition involving the entire school.
They judged the posters against a set of criteria and selected three finalists from each year and then selected one winning poster.
Year 5 students Madi Saez, Eden Opie and Levi Russell worked together on their colourful poster and were declared the poster competition winners.
“Each class made an anti-bullying pledge which they displayed on their classroom door, said teacher Daniele Aldred.
“We hung all the finalists posters around the school. On the day, classes walked around with their teacher looking and reading all the posters and pledges.”
The older students learnt about the long-term effects of bullying and all students learnt that it is important to stand up against bullying and strategies to use when they see someone being bullied. They also learnt what to do if they are bullied, Mrs Aldred said.
