Firemen, health workers, teachers, sports coaches, youth leaders – Blue Mountains citizens from all walks of life volunteer to serve our community in many ways and often do so without recognition.
Lower Blue Mountains Rotary will sponsor a special recognition and presentation evening on May 29 to acknowledge the “service above self” of these elite citizens during the past 12 months.
Chairman of the Community Volunteer Awards Committee, Rotarian John Keogh, said nomination forms are available from www.lowerbluemountainsrotary.org.au.
He said there are six categories this year: health; education; youth programs; sports; emergency services; and community support.
Residents making nominations are requested to provide a detailed description of the nominee, the scope of their service and why they are a deserving recipient of the award.
Key information should include the organisation they have assisted, specific details of their assistance, how long they have volunteered, who benefits from their service, and positive results arising from their work.
Nomination forms should be returned to John Keogh (johnkeogh@johnkeogh.com.au) or Heather Watkins (heatherwatkins@optusnet.com.au) – or post to Lower Blue Mountains Rotary Club Inc, PO Box 60, Glenbrook NSW 2773.
Nominations close on April 21. The function will be held in the Emu Plains Sports Club.
Rotary Club President Rennie Schmid urged members of all community organisations to look at their leaders and provide recognition where it is due.
“Last year’s awards evening was an outstanding event with many deserving recipients,” he said.
“For example Richard Vandervelden of the Blaxland Riding for the Disabled Group was honoured after 30 years of outstanding service to underprivileged children,” he said.
“There are many other fine examples and we urge people to go to the Lower Blue Mountains website, download the nomination form immediately, complete the nomination and return same to Rotary Club of Lower Blue Mountains.”
