Winter is coming to Melbourne a little early, with a rare collection of Scandinavian Viking artefacts storming the city.
The collection of 450 items, on loan from Stockholm's Swedish History Museum, is part of Melbourne Museum's Vikings: Beyond the Legend exhibition, which opens on Friday.
The myth-busting exhibition, the largest collection of Viking objects ever shown in Melbourne, uses the artefacts and latest archaeological findings to challenge modern misconceptions of the Nordic seaborne raiders as bearded, dirty, horn-helmeted barbarians.
