In her job Michaela Loesh looked after others, and now it’s time to look after her, friend Anita Smith said.
Ms Loesh remains in Westmead Hospital after a serious accident on her motorcycle on the Great Western Highway at Lawson on March 18.
The 54-year-old was airlifted to hospital in a critical condition and only regained consciousness three days after the accident.
Her friend Anita Smith said the Springwood single mother of three had recently come out of intensive care.
Mrs Smith said her friend had broken both her arms and her face was badly bruised, but she was talking and in good spirits. Fortunately a bleed on the brain hadn’t caused brain damage.
It’s expected to be quite some time before Ms Loesh is allowed home, and unable to work and with three kids to support, Mrs Smith decided to set up a fundraising page to help her friend out.
“Even the strong ones need help,” Mrs Smith said.
“So many people know her. So many people ask ‘how can I help’. Even a small donation can make a difference for her.”
Ms Loesh runs Fisill, a before and after school care program at Warrimoo Public School.
“She provides a home away from home – the kids love going there,” Mrs Smith said. “She looks after the children like they are her own. She has a heart of gold and is a well-known and loved member of the wider Blue Mountains community.”
She met Ms Loesh through the after school care program many years ago, and they’ve been firm friends ever since.
“She’s like my second mum,” Mrs Smith said. “She’s such a warm person.”
Ms Loesh remains in Westmead Hospital on strong pain medication and is not up to having visitors yet.
Mrs Smith set up a Go Fund Me fundraising page with a target of $5000. The donations are pouring in. In five days $4000 has already been donated. All money raised goes directly into Ms Loesh’s bank account. Visit: https://www.gofundme.com/help-michaela-recover-without-worry.
“Thanks to everyone for their generosity and caring messages and helping Michaela in recovery,” Mrs Smith said.
