Strong winds caused property damage from Blackheath to Blaxland on the weekend of June 16-17.
Westerly winds peaked at 87km/hour in the Upper Mountains early on Friday morning and remained strong across the Mountains until Sunday evening.
The Blue Mountains SES received 18 calls for help, mostly relating to trees damaged by the storm.
“We had three teams of volunteers in freezing temperatures on Saturday and Sunday,” said John Hughes, Local Controller for the Blue Mountains SES Unit.
“At the same time, and in line with the Blue Mountains Snow Plan, we had 10 members with 4WD vehicles on standby in case we had any significant snowfall.”
The SES received reports of light snow settling from Medlow Bath to Blackheath on Sunday morning between 6 and 7am, but it cleared quickly and there were no reported issues on local roads.
Sunday was the coldest day, only reaching 2.5 degrees at Blackheath at 1.30pm. Factoring in the wind chill factor, the maximum temperature was just -5.2 degrees.
By Sunday evening, the SES had made all damaged properties safe, with two large trees being handed over to professional arborists to secure on Monday morning.
“The SES wish to remind residents that they should ensure that you secure loose items in the yard during windy conditions such as outdoor furniture, children’s toys and gardening tools,” said Mr Hughes.
If you require assistance during a storm, you can contact the SES on 132 500.
