A trivia night fundraiser in Blaxland raised more than $6000 for the nation’s struggling farms on Saturday, September 15.
Barb Lees and Christine Chapman from Mortgage Choice instigated the fundraiser which was attended by 80 people, including local Blaxland businesses – Chapman Real Estate, Rose Rentals, Mortgage Choice and Nepean Imaging, as well as Penrith-based realestate.com.au Home Loans.
The event raised $6700 on the night, with $6200 given to Rural Aid Ltd to be distributed to farmers in western NSW while $500 was given directly to a farming family in Narromine.
“We were thrilled to raise so much and be able to support our drought-stricken farmers, who are doing it so tough. We chose Rural Aid as we could request that the funds be used to assist farmers in Western NSW, which is basically just up the road,” said organiser, Christine Chapman from Mortgage Choice in Blaxland.
Catering was done by Mountain First Catering, trivia host was Jason Dean from Thinker Entertainment, native flowers were supplied by Flower Empire, Glenbrook, and baked treats were supplied by Pauline Geier and Abbey Pollock. Major prizes were donated by the GWS Giants, Clear Path Accounting in Blaxland and Mortgage Choice in Blaxland, Penrith and Glenmore Park.
Many other prizes were donated by local businesses: Blaxland Country Market, Blaxland Post Office, Ella Bache Glenbrook, Murrays Glenbrook Cellars, Glenbrook Butchery, Con's Deli Glenbrook, Health Tribe Sydney and East Blaxland Butchery as well as well as a number of businesses from Penrith: The Coffee Club Nepean River, Freedom Furniture Penrith, S&K Air Conditioning, Panther Auto Service Centre, Lennox Auto and Tyre and more.
A silent auction on the night raised more than $1500, with Jonathan Crisp from Chapman Real Estate, Springwood securing two SkyDeck tickets to a GWS Giants game next season and another lucky couple going home with the signed GWS football.
