Gum boots and woolen beanies were the fashion items of choice, but wet and cold weather didn't deter thousands of people from enjoying the Blue Mountains Music Festival in Katoomba on the weekend.
Headline acts like Ireland's Luka Bloom, US singer-songwriter Neko Case and Katie Noonan's Elixir with cartoonist Michael Leunig didn't disappoint, while Danish group Afenginn garnered a four-star review in the Sydney Morning Herald for their festival performance.
From experienced performers like UK folk legend Ralph McTell to the youthful musicians of ukulele three-piece from Utah, The Naked Waiters, the festival had something for all musical tastes and ages. Australian acts to impress included Melbourne sisters, The Maes, and 10-piece collective, The Northern Folk, hailing from Albury.
Of course, any truly successful music festival ends up being about more than the music. The husband and wife team behind Canada's Tomato/tomato, John and Lisa McLaggan, summed this up on Instagram: "It may have rained all weekend, but we ate awesome Indian food, explored the sweet town of Katoomba, met an awesome dog named Jack, had too many flat whites, had epic conversations, and came away inspired by all the amazing musicians."
