New children's play areas at Wentworth Falls Lake and Glenbrook Park are on the way.
Blue Mountains council has accepted an almost $500,000 tender from Wollongong-based Moduplay Group to upgrade the play area at Wentworth Falls Lake.
The pirate ship is remaining untouched, but the playground near the new toilets containing "old fashioned and failing play equipment" will be upgraded. The work is expected to be completed by May 2021.
Ward two Councillor Romola Hollywood said the equipment and state of the softfall had been a volatile issue, and the community would be happy to hear it was being upgraded. "And the existing equipment can stay in place while the new equipment is put in," she said.
Better View Landscapes from Little Hartley has been awarded a $798,000 tender to build an inclusive youth playground for 7 to 12-year-olds at Glenbrook Park.
The project will include installing park furniture and softfall, timberwork, rockworks, painting, soil preparation, planting and grassing, fencing, demolition, earthworks, drainage, paving, electrical and metalwork.
The play space will include a 5.4m climbing rope tower with tunnel slide, 20m double flying fox with two seats, five swings, monkey bars, timber balance trail and two trampolines - one large enough for a wheelchair. It's expected to be complete by January 2021.
The company also built the playground at Glenbrook Park for young children in 2018, and completed the Summerhayes Park play upgrade.
