Warrnambool police have moved to allay community fears about positive COVID cases in the city. Rumours swept Warrnambool on Wednesday that a household of people in east Warrnambool, who had returned positive results to coronavirus, were found by police not to be isolating at home. Warrnambool police Acting Senior Sergeant Jason Dance said that rumour was not correct. He said the household was complying with all instructions and had been cooperative. The acting senior sergeant said there had been no issues. A Warrnambool resident was tested in Melbourne and returned home to isolate leading to the latest COVID scare. That test was positive and on Wednesday morning it was revealed that another four people in that household had tested positive. The circumstances of the person returning home to Warrnambool are not known. It's expected that Southwest Healthcare will hold a press conference briefing at 11am on Thursday to provide some information. Those positive results led to a number of exposure sites being listed on Wednesday. TIER 1 EXPOSURE SITES: MONDAY 27/09/2021 TUESDAY 28/09/2021 TIER 2 SITES: FRIDAY 24/09/2021 SATURDAY 25/09/2021 MONDAY 27/09/2021 Today testing will be conducted at South Warrnambool footy club's Friendly Societies' Park between 7.30am and 10pm and at the Camperdown Leura Oval between 10am and 2pm. And the Warrnambool COVID testing clinic will be open from 8am and 4pm. That is the place to go if you have COVID-like symptoms (such as a sore throat, a cold or the flu). An appointment is necessary. Phone 5563 1666 and choose option 5. Finally, if you're eligible to be vaccinated and are yet to do so please get on to it. Booking info for vaccination clinics is on the Southwest Healthcare homepage of the website at www.southwest healthcare.com.au The exposure sites added on Wednesday were in addition to the 33 other sites listed on Friday evening in Warrnambool, Camperdown and Terang after a positive case in Corangamite. That led to about 2700 tests being conducted in those centres at the weekend. There were questions asked after Southwest Healthcare only had about 300 results back early on Monday morning after it was initially thought that Warrnambool Pathology could return about 1500 tests a day with a six to 12-hour turnaround. Instead it's understood that samples were transported to Melbourne for testing. That led to claims that results were taking well over 24 hours to come back. That outbreak now stands at three people in one household in Corangamite with a direct link to COVID cases in Ballarat. Details of the circumstances which led to the initial positive test of the Corangamite resident are also not known. The Victorian Government also announced a separate case in Colac on Wednesday. While the south-west has so far avoided a lockdown, other areas have not been so fortunate. La Trobe in Gippsland has gone into a seven-day lockdown after 24 cases from 19 different households were linked to an AFL grand final party.
