Springwood Bowling Clubs

Greenkeeper Noah is waiting for a break in the weather to send out a dove to test if it’s safe to venture onto the greens.
Washouts include Wednesday Men’s, Friday Jackpot Pairs and Saturday Morning Mixed and Birney’s on Saturday.
The Ladies were a bit more waterproof with some Consistency games played on Tuesday and Thursday. Lesley reports that in this event Karen Coleman d Barbara Templeton; Bridget Blair d Julie Stanford and Anne Refalo d Lyn Oliver. Semis on Tuesday Final on Thursday - if Noah’s dove returns holding an olive branch.
Also I appreciate greatly Maureen sending me result sheets after Tuesday and Thursday morning bowls.
The Men’s Bowling Club had its AGM on Sunday and while there were lots of interesting things that arose I would like to emphasise just three.
Firstly, many of us are a bit miffed when we are told we can’t get into Bowlers’ Room or can’t use the Notice Board anymore. President Graham put this entirely into perspective when he reminded us that the Bowling Clubs now lease Springwood Sports Club facilities. Because of a few bad decisions made ten or so years ago whenever we use Club facilities now we need to lease these facilities from Mingara. They are not the Bowling Clubs' anymore to do with as they please. We should in fact be grateful for this for if Mingara hadn’t taken over the running of the Club we would really have been up the creek without a paddle. No use crying over spilt milk - let’s make the best of what we have and rest assured that the Committee negotiates tirelessly on our behalf.
Secondly, we were told that because of the unification policy of Bowls Australia there will be three separate Pennants competitions next year. Women’s, Men’s and Mixed. Plenty of opportunity to represent the Club and work for Pennants’ selectors, yet to be determined.
Thirdly, while originally many 2021 championship events were cancelled because of you-know what, Bowls Secretary John has been able to re-schedule some competitions eg The Major Singles, as the Bowling Year has now changed. Don’t forget though that entry is via Team App. He has placed the Entry Form on the App and you can enter there. Already nine members have. Don’t know how? There are plenty of members who can show you. Don’t miss out.
Some other news from the AGM-Ken Thrift’s booklet ‘Bowls From Go to Whoa’ was well-received and most at the meeting grabbed a copy; Bruce generously carries on as Welfare Officer and Scoop retains the Publicity Officer’s mantle and the Committee is looking at suggestions on a format to rejuvenate interest in Saturday afternoon bowls when Pennants and Championships aren’t being conducted. One suggestion - Nominated, Open Pairs. Good stuff.
Finally another good turnout at Jack Attack on Sunday with Karen, Margaret and John giving generously of time and expertise to recruit new members.
Borrowing from Humphrey Bogart - Here’s looking at you 2022!
