Fantastic family fun is top of the agenda for the annual festival that celebrates Springwood’s proud history, Foundation Day.
Traffic will cease on the town’s main street, Macquarie Road, on Saturday, April 5 and be replaced with festivalgoers, buskers, bargain hunters, musicians and marchers.
It’s a day all about celebrating Springwood’s strong and vibrant community spirit, which is especially evident since October’s damaging bushfires.
Enjoy continuous live family entertainment with roaming street performers and music and dance performances on three festival stages.
Stroll through more than 80 festival food and market stalls for a unique birthday gift or perfect Mother’s Day present, with many bargains on offer for homewares, craft, novelties and fashion accessories.
The kids will love ‘Side Show Alley’ with its many amusements and rides for the young and just young at heart.
Two van stalls full of show bags will add to the old style amusement park atmosphere.
Why not start your day with brunch at a Springwood cafe and then observe the official opening ceremony where a mayoral address will be made in honour of members of local emergency services.
Then head to either side of the main street at 12:30pm to get a good vantage point for the Springwood 400-metre Dash, which is open to all to enter.
The Dash directly precedes the ever-popular Foundation Day Grand Parade at 1pm, which promises to be a great spectacle.
The Grand Parade will star members of local schools, sports clubs, music, dance and community groups, marching bands, Police and emergency services personnel, classic cars, colourful floats and plenty of local residents dressed up in all sorts of interesting costumes.
Keep an eye out for the ABC exhibition trailer, which is equipped with television and radio studio gear which you can use to practice reading the news or announcing the latest weather report.
Remember, Macquarie Road will be closed to traffic on March 5 from 7am to 5pm.
Use of public transport to get to Foundation Day is encouraged.
Emergency services will be publicly and formally acknowledged on the day.
