A well-deserved chorus of cheers greeted Jenny Cameron last Wednesday to mark her 25th year working for Coles.
Mrs Cameron started working for the company in 1989 at its Katoomba supermarket doing night shifts unpacking boxes and loading shelves.
She then transferred to the old Bi-Lo supermarket in Winmalee. After a few years working at Coles at North Richmond, she returned to Bi-Lo in Winmalee and was promoted to service manager when it became a full-sized Coles supermarket within Winmalee Village Shopping Centre.
Mrs Cameron was presented with a special certificate and said it was a proud moment.
"I've always had a lot of support from my team members and management," she said. "So it's always been a pleasure to come to work.
"I don't know if there is a secret to it [being such a loyal employee]. But I just try to make everyone's day better. It's also been good to know we've [Coles Winmalee] done a lot of charity work for the local community.
"Including donating money for the homeless and more recently supporting the bushfire recovery."
Mrs Cameron finds training others rewarding.
"I don't know the exact number, but I feel I've probably trained at least 1000 Coles employees so far. It's something I've enjoyed and I hope I've made an impression on the young people to do something productive with their lives.
"I'm still hoping to train many more."
When congratulating Mrs Cameron, Coles NSW finance manager and Glenbrook resident Rodney Forrest revealed she trained him when he got his first job as a teenager at the old Winmalee Bi-Lo supermarket.
Coles NSW general manager Kirstie Hepburn described Mrs Cameron's long service milestone as "absolutely brilliant".
"Jenny is such as asset, she's been part of the fabric at Coles in the Blue Mountains for so long," Mrs Hepburn said.
The staff and people here can't talk highly enough about her."
