The Blue Mountains Theatre at Springwood was inundated by Henry Rollins fans last week as they rushed to secure the best seats for his upcoming show, An Evening with Henry Rollins, on September 2.
The show went on sale at 9am on March 11 with 110 tickets sold in the first 10 minutes. By 1pm over 50 per cent of tickets were gone and by 5pm more than 70 per cent. The rest of the seats were scooped up in the next couple of days, with the theatre reporting the show is now completely sold-out.
“Legendary American word artist extraordinaire Henry Rollins is touring Australia and the Blue Mountains Theatre has the prestige of being the very first venue for the tour,” said Yvonne Hellmers, the theatre’s programs co-ordinator.
“It’s great for the theatre, great for Springwood and great for tourism in the wider region - with out of area patrons booking accommodation in the Lower and Upper Blue Mountains.”
Theatre stats show that recent Hub shows have attracted a large portion of ticket sales from people across greater Sydney, regional NSW and interstate along with patrons from virtually every village in the Mountains.
Facebook went crazy as Blue Mountains’ Rollins fans expressed their initial disbelief and then sheer delight that Rollins would be performing at the Hub, Ms Hellmers said.
This success follows the recent performance of internationally acclaimed band, The Necks. With performers and musicians praising the acoustics the theatre has now firmly established itself as a major venue for touring artists and shows.
Tim Smith, Hub facility manager, said: “It’s tremendously important to be able to bring performers of Rollins’ calibre to Blue Mountains’ audiences, and patrons can expect more exciting artist announcements as we roll out an engaging variety of programs for all ages and tastes across 2016 and into 2017.”
