Varuna The Writer’s House in Katoomba is busy preparing for the Varuna and Sydney Writers’ Festival 2016 - bringing to the Blue Mountains an exciting program of free and ticketed events next month.

Free community events will be held at Varuna in Cascade Street on Sunday, May 15, and Saturday and Sunday, May 21-22.

Featured writers at this year’s Blue Mountains events include James Rebanks, the tweeting shepherd from UK’s Lakes District, New York memoirist and feminist oracle Vivian Gornick, Australian comedian Magda Szubanski, and Irish poet and physicist Ignatius Mcgovern.

Also featured will be fearless and controversial international investigative reporter Andrew Fowler, four of the six Australian women authors nominated for the 2016 Stella Award as well as a host of Blue Mountains writers writing about place for the Dictionary of Sydney.

Other events include visual storytelling from local Indigenous artists presented in partnership with Modern Art Projects, fire circle yarns, workshops and a poetry party at Varuna. Self-publishing forums will be held at the Blue Mountains Cultural Centre and Katoomba Library.

Events over the five days will be held in the Grand Ballroom at the Carrington Hotel, the Blue Mountains Cultural Centre as well as Varuna.
