A worker installing the National Broadband Network in Katoomba was killed in an accident last Friday.
The man was working in Station Street, across the park from Blue Mountains City Council chambers, when he suffered a head injury around 1.30pm.
Police and paramedics were called but the man died at the scene.
NBN chief executive officer, Bill Morrow, said the man was a contractor working for one of its delivery partners on the NBN network. Mr Morrow expressed his sadness at the news.
“This is tragic news and we are doing all that we can to assist.
“The thoughts of everyone at NBN are with the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased at this very sad time.”
Station Street was closed from Civic Place on Friday. Investigators were back at the scene on Monday.
The man’s name has not been released.
Police said a brief would be prepared for the coroner. Both Safe Work NSW and Comcare were looking at the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
It is the second death involving NBN installation after a man was killed in Kiama in 2013. The man, working for a concreting company, was crushed between a stationary truck belonging to the concreter and a second truck operated by NBN Co.
