Well-known Leura cyclist Bob Montgomery is off again on another national ride, this time from Darwin to Perth.
Mr Montgomery, 73, and fellow Rotarians from Upper Blue Mountains Rotary, Bill Pixton and Michael Small, depart in mid-May and expect to arrive in Perth late June. The journey is more than 4000km with some daily rides approaching 200km, often in challenging and remote areas.
Mr Montgomery’s third major charity ride will see him raise money for motor neurone disease and Huntington’s disease, with a $100,000 target. A “Come Out Swinging” concert late last year raised $10,000 towards this total.
Locals can help support the cause at a charity golf day at Blackheath Golf Course on Sunday, February 19.
“The four person ambrose event is shaping up as an important part of the fundraising and we would welcome interested golfers to register,” said Bill Pixton of Upper Blue Mountains Rotary.
Blackheath Golf Club is also hosting a foursomes championship and singles stableford event on Saturday, February 11 with a sportsman’s dinner featuring guests, Penrith Panthers legend Royce Simmons, Olympic pentathlete Ed Fernon, and former English Test cricketer Monty Panesar. Bob Montgomery and the ride team will also be there.
