Live at the Village presents Joe Farnsworth Prime Time Quartet on Thursday, May 4 at 8pm in the Presbyterian Hall, 160 Macquarie Rd, Springwood. Led by celebrated New York drummer Joe Farnsworth, the quartet features some of the cream of Australian jazz with tenor saxophonist Dale Barlow, award winning bassist Brendan Clarke, and swingin’ jazz pianist John Harkins.
Farnsworth is considered one of the top jazz drummers in the world today and has frequently shared the stage with such illustrious company as McCoy Tyner, Pharaoh Sanders, Diana Krall and Wynton Marsalis. He appears at the iconic New York clubs the Blue Note, Village Vanguard and Birdland as well as the Lincoln Centre and major festivals such as Montreal, Red Sea and Umbria jazz festivals to name a few.
Live at the Village are presenting the Prime Time Quartet at the Presbyterian Hall in central Springwood ahead of tour dates in the eastern state capitals and drum clinics at the Sydney Conservatorium and in Brisbane. The band will also appear in Newcastle and northern NSW venues.
Farnsworth is dedicated to the great tradition of jazz drumming by the likes of Max Roach, Roy Haynes and Elvin Jones. He is described as being able to set all kinds of material in motion, minus fuss and clutter, drawing on tradition as a jazz musician while incorporating various percussion instruments from around the world.
The Joe Farnsworth Prime Time Quartet astounded audiences with their high energy and world class performances last year, and more of the same is likely this time around.
