They sang, they chanted, they played recordings of aircraft noise: The anti-Badgerys Creek airport protesters aren’t finished yet.
A group gathered outside the office of Stuart Ayres today (Friday), largely to protest his recent remarks dismissing any thought of a curfew for a western Sydney airport.
They are also aware that Penrith City Council has not organised any forums in the area on the issue and thought locals should know the facts.
Andrea Grieve, from No BCA, said: “We just want to raise awareness that the airport isn’t a done deal, even though people think it is.”
Janie Burry, from Residents Against Western Sydney Airport, said Penrith council had originally voted not to hold any forums on the issue.
“They now have agreed to have forums but they haven’t come through with them,” she said.
They protesters said they were angry at remarks by Penrith MP, Stuart Ayres, that the idea of a curfew for a western Sydney airport should be “dead and buried”.
“Given that night-time flights could be occurring every 20 minutes, flying over houses with little or no insulation at an altitude of around 4,000 feet with noise levels of 60-70 decibels (loud enough to stop a conversation), he is condemning people in his electorate to sleepless nights and compromised health,” the group said in a press release.
Ms Grieve described a western Sydney airport as “environmental vandalism, pollution belching and quality of life destroying”.
