Springwood Swimming club was well represented at the recent Jets Short Course Winter Carnival held from May 6-7 in Orange.
Eleven swimmers ranging in age from 7-13 braved the cold to compete and have fun, and also achieved some great results in the process.
The youngest of the swimmers, Isla Bullock (7), swam two wonderful races at her very first ever meet. She had two personal best times, shaving 5.74 secs off her 25m back to receive second place position in this event. Another newcomer, Ayden Balson (10), competed in four events, with two PBs and had a great time swimming in his first competition. Molly Weaver (8), achieved four PBs, her best being the 50Fly, improving by a fantastic 5.12 secs and achieving a second place in the 100m Freestyle.
Emilia Brown, also 8 years, had a great swim in her 100IM. She dropped an amazing 7.19 secs, had three PBs overall and came eighth in 25m Fly. Evie Bullock (9), had a fantastic day, coming away with two gold, (50m fly and back), two silver (50m breast and 100IM) and two bronze medals (50m and 100m Free) for her efforts.
Isabelle Iversen (11), had a great day competing in five events, her best being the 200IM with a 7.50 sec PB. Lachlan Brown (12), had a great meet, achieving five PBs all up, best being a fantastic 12.33 secs of his 200IM time. Eliza Huckel (12), had a speedy swim in her 50m breaststroke to gain third position and snared a bronze medal for her efforts. Lily Morgan (12), had a fantastic meet with PBs in all nine events. She grabbed first place in both the 50m and 100m Breast , and gained both a Country Championship and State Short Course Championship qualifying times for the 200m Breaststroke with an 8.26 sec PB. Caleb Dryer (13), also had a fantastic meet, achieving PBs in all eight events, placing first in 100m Fly and 100m Back, second in 100m Free and 400IM and third in 200m Back and 400m Free. He also bagged himself two more Short Course State Championship qualifying times for the 200m Back and 100m Fly. Matthew Hill (13), had a great meet, achieving a whopping six PBs, with his best being the 200IM improving by 3.23 secs.
