A man is due to face Penrith Local Court next month after police allege he stole nine pairs of sunglasses worth more than $3,000 from a Penrith Westfield outlet.
A man entered an area of the centre closed off to the public shortly after 8pm on July 16 and was allegedly seen to enter a retail outlet, according to a Penrith police spokesman.
“He attempted to pull open display drawers to access sunglasses within them,” he said. “He tried numerous drawers without success before breaking the lock on one.
“He removed nine pairs of sunglasses worth in excess of $3,000 and placed them into his pockets.”
The man was approached by security who detained him until police arrived on the scene, the spokesman said.
A 21-year-old Winmalee man was arrested and charged with larceny. He is due to appear before Penrith Local Court on August 8.
