Blue Mountains Artfest is excited to announce that the hugely talented Geoff Hayes will be the featured artist at this year’s event.
Artfest is on at Wentworth Falls Public School over the weekend of November 10-12.
After teaching art for more than two decades in South Australia, Hayes moved to Wentworth Falls to concentrate on his own artistic endeavours. He found himself inspired by the Blue Mountains and, in particular, the Kanangra region.
Over the past four years he has found himself enjoying the region’s waterways by kayak which, from an artistic perspective, gives a whole new way of appreciating the landscape. Not only did it give him access to otherwise inaccessible landscapes around places like Dunn’s Swamp and Glenbrook Gorge, but physically lowered his eye’s gaze allowing for a more unique vision of the intersection between land and water.
Hayes’ paintings evolve through a mixture of charcoal drawings overlaid with acrylic and oil paint. He found that the images and observations collected from a variety of locations reflected common themes found in nature, such as time, decay and renewal. These reflections culminated in a recent exhibition of paintings entitled Shoreline. Some of these, as well as several new artworks created specifically for this exhibition, will be available for viewing and purchase at Blue Mountains Artfest 2017.
The event’s opening night is on Friday November 10 providing guests with delicious canapes and beverages to accompany them as they peruse the talented works of art and mingle with fellow art lovers and the featured artist, Geoff Hayes, himself.
Blue Mountains Artfest is still accepting entries from other artists interested in exhibiting and selling their artwork. Entries close Friday October 13. Full details are online at www.bluemountainsartfest.net.au.
